Context
A Channel Islands financial services organisation was managing a significant portfolio of business and technology change, with competing priorities, limited internal capacity and a temporary gap in senior change leadership.
With several important programmes underway, the CEO needed experienced support to stabilise delivery, bring greater clarity to the portfolio and ensure time, people and investment were focused on projects that would genuinely deliver the business plan. CBO was brought in to provide interim leadership, strengthen how change was managed and help establish a sustainable approach for the future.
Approach
A senior CBO leader worked directly alongside the CEO, leadership team and internal project teams over nine months, combining strategic advice with hands-on delivery support.
The first priority was stabilisation, getting a clear picture of what was underway, addressing immediate challenges and maintaining momentum across critical programmes.
CBO then reviewed and reprioritised the portfolio, helping connect projects more directly to business objectives and ensuring resources and investment were directed towards the work that mattered most. This included establishing clearer portfolio governance, improving executive reporting and creating a structured approach to assessing new initiatives, challenging priorities and managing competing demands. Throughout, CBO stayed close to key projects and the people delivering them, providing practical support, removing blockers and strengthening accountability without adding unnecessary process. A key part of the engagement was also helping shape the future Project and Change Delivery function, supporting the successful recruitment and handover to a permanent leader.
Impact
The organisation gained greater control and visibility of its change portfolio, with clearer priorities, stronger governance and better-informed decisions about where to invest time, money and resources.
By connecting change activity more closely to the business plan, CBO helped leadership focus on delivering meaningful business outcomes rather than simply progressing projects.
Critical programmes received continued oversight during the transition, while the internal team benefited from clearer responsibilities and a more structured approach to delivery.
Most importantly, CBO provided stability when it was needed and helped set the organisation up for long-term success.
With a permanent leader successfully recruited and supported through handover, the client was left with stronger internal capability and a clearer foundation for managing future change.
