HR Manager

HR Manager at a dynamic management consultancy that is growing across the Channel Islands, committed to professional development and wellbeing, known for its high performing team.

CBO is a leading Channel Islands management consultancy.  We are a trusted partner to our clients, known for our quality, reliability, value and flexibility.

We know that our clients’ trust is based on the quality of our team, who we are committed to providing with an exceptional employee experience.  To make this a reality:

  • We invest heavily in everyone’s professional development, based on personalised ‘pathways’.
  • We complement this with a range of support, including structured line management, quality assurance of all work delivered to clients, and peer-led ‘communities of practice’.
  • We provide top-quality facilities, including modern and well-equipped offices.
  • We strive to manage workload, and provide flexibility, so that each individual can achieve their desired work-life balance.

We are, at the same time, growing.  We’ve expanded from 15 to 25 people over the last two years, and opened our second office, in Jersey, at the start of 2024.  Consequently, we are regularly recruiting and constantly on the lookout for people with the right attitude and skills to join our team.

As our team grows, and their needs and preferences diversify, we continue to introduce new improvements and innovations to how we support our colleagues.  These are captured in our annually refreshed People Strategy, which is informed by our team and encapsulates our commitment to them that our work to provide them with an excellent experience is ongoing, and is never ‘done’.

We are looking for an HR Manager to join CBO, bringing the professional specialism and capacity required to deliver against this commitment fully.  The HR Manager will be responsible for our HR Operations and will support our Chief People Officer in the delivery of our People Strategy.

Ensuring that we have the right resources.  This includes:

  • developing and delivering recruitment campaigns
  • ensuring that new joiners have an effective and smooth onboarding into the company
  • managing the leaver process, enabling us to learn from the experiences of any departing employee.

Supporting the professional development of our team.  This includes:

  • coordinating our ‘Pathway’ process, to ensure that everyone articulates – and can succeed in achieving – annual personal development goals
  • maintaining and enhancing our training standards.

Focussing on our team’s wellbeing.  This includes:

  • ensuring that effective line management arrangements are in place, and being utilised
  • working with the employee, their line manager, and the wider management team, to identify and address individual wellbeing issues
  • supporting the implementation of wider wellbeing initiatives, informed by our Wellbeing Action Plan.

Managing employee relations issues, such as:

  • the application of our performance, disciplinary, grievance and special leave policies
  • ensuring that those policies remain compliant with the laws of each jurisdiction in which we are employing people.

Working with our Chief People Officer, and the wider Management Team, to ensure that we maintain a vibrant, positive and high performing culture.  We know that this requires constant attention and support as we grow and articulate this through our annually-refreshed People Strategy and Action Plan.

A successful candidate must have material experience of working in an operational HR capacity.  This must include experience of managing recruitment campaigns and employee relations issues.  It is preferable that the experience includes work to promote employees’ professional development and wellbeing.

A formal HR qualification is highly preferable, of at least CIPD Associate standard or equivalent.

We are looking for someone who is going to enjoy the opportunities and challenges that CBO provide, namely:

  • Working with a company that is people-focussed, has a clear and demonstrable track record of investing in its team’s professional development and wellbeing, and a high performing and welcoming culture.
  • Maturing and professionalising the HR Operations of a rapidly growing company.
  • Supporting the company’s establishment of a team in a second jurisdiction.

When starting in the post, you will be part of a team of two, focussed on people management (the other being the Chief People Officer).  You will, therefore, need to be comfortable and keen to work autonomously and independently.

What makes us different? CBO offers more than just a job, because we sincerely strive to provide the best for our team. We care about each person’s well-being and development, and everyone gets the chance to give back to the causes they care about across our community.

CBO offers a competitive salary – which is determined by the individual’s level of skills and experience.  Salary estimates will be shared with short-listed candidates.

In addition to this, CBO provides:

  • 5% pension contribution;
  • 25 days holiday a year;
  • 5 days allowance for paid charity / community service per year;
  • A commitment to at least £1,500 of training per year;
  • Personalised development pathways for each employee – to ensure that every member of the company has the opportunity to excel and achieve their professional goals.

We provide all of our employees with the highest quality equipment and support, for use in our modern offices, when working on client site, and when working from home.  Travel outside of the Channel Islands may be required but is usually infrequent.

This is a permanent contract. We are open to applicants seeking to work part time, at 3 to 4 days per week.  To support a positive work-life balance, we also provide employees with a high level of autonomy and flexibility in the management of working time.

We are an employer that values diversity and encourage applicants from all backgrounds.

CBO is the independent trusted partner in the Channel Islands for management consultancy. We have a great team with supportive staff, real industry expertise and the drive to find meaningful, long-lasting solutions. We deliver the highest quality business analysis, project management, consultancy, change management and assurance services to a wide range of local and international clients, who are at the forefront of what we do.

Founded 12 years ago, we have matured into a 25-person dynamic team regularly delivering major projects for local and national, blue-chip, public and private sector organisations.

We focus on recruiting the right people: those who have skills that will benefit our clients, the desire and ability to develop those skills further, and the right personality for our friendly, collaborative and professional team. We believe working at CBO is more than just a job, it’s an opportunity to be part of a forward-thinking, positive and often, buzzing environment.

CBO will provide a fantastic home for you as an HR specialist.  You will receive:

  • A holistic approach to professional development, including mentoring and training
  • First class equipment and office facilities
  • Open-minded remuneration, with a competitive base salary, meaningful pension contributions and a transparent bonus scheme
  • Support to work flexibly. This includes being open to applicants who wish to work part-time
  • Five days’ Charity & Community Leave, providing you with the opportunity to contribute to initiatives close to your heart, on top of a standard 25 days’ annual leave

CBO Projects is a leading Channel Islands management consultancy, with a difference. We are a trusted partner to our clients, known for our quality, reliability, value and flexibility. But we also go the extra mile for our team, because a great team creates the exceptional work we are known for.

We mainly provide business analysis, project management, consultancy, change management and assurance services to clients in the financial, legal, insurance, utilities and public sectors. We primarily work with organisations who operate out of Guernsey and Jersey, however we also work with companies based both in the UK and in other offshore jurisdictions.

In our first 12 years of delivering successful projects, we have repeatedly proven our expertise in delivering organisational, technological, and regulatory change. We solve problems, leave no stone unturned and uphold the ultimate standards for client satisfaction.
